Ahhh, that transcendent question: What to wear?
I am often asked: what is good photo shoot attire? Here are my thoughts…
1. Avoid clothing which features any prominent logos—sorry Elmo, that means you. Unless there is something very special about a particular article of clothing–for example, it’s their favorite and they wear it seven days a week–it’s best that the pictures’ focus be on your child…not Thomas the Train.
2. Particularly with family photos, as in life, try to avoid wearing clashing colors. This is not to say your family needs to wear matching outfits but the less distracting the colors and patterns, the better the pictures.
3. A wardrobe change is absolutely fine by me, but it’s best not to turn the sitting into a Three Act play: it brings down the momentum of the shoot, and often tires children out leaving them less likely to cooperate.
4. Comfort is king. I understand the desire to wear beautiful clothing, but make sure your child’s clothing is not too itchy or irritating and allows them to be themselves.
5. I encourage all my clients to dress their children in the clothes that really represent who they are and what they like, as this is something to that will be remembered fondly as time passes. You will be glad to have it documented.
Remember: These are suggestions. Not rules. My goal is to capture the essence and personality of your family.
